I work with only top-quality equipment to ensure that my images fully meet the technical requirements of my clients and my own strict demands. As my own toughest critic, I need to know that I'm working with gear that can keep up with me and deliver the results I expect from it.
Cameras My workflow from start to finish is completely digital. I work with two cameras for two reasons: security and flexibility. If one camera fails (neither one ever has) I can switch seamlessly to the other camera without missing a beat. This "double-fisted" setup also gives me the ability to switch rapidly between telephoto and wide-angle work by keeping different lenses on each camera, giving me great speed and responsiveness in fast-paced situations.
- Canon EOS 1D Mark III (10.1 MP, dual "DIGIC III" image processors)
- Canon EOS 1D Mark II (8.2 MP, "DIGIC II" image processor)
- Capture format: RAW capture (Canon .cr2), final output typically 8-bit JPEG using ProPhoto RGB color profile (view a sample JPEG)
Lenses Lenses are even more important than the camera, because they are the eyes of the operation. Without the high-quality glass and responsiveness to light you find in my lens repertoire, you couldn't get the top-notch pictures I work so hard to deliver.
- Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L Image Stabilizer
- Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L Image Stabilizer
- Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L
- Canon EF 85mm f/1.8
Lights Photography = "photo" (light) + "graph" (write). Hence, photography is "writing with light." No light, no picture. Generally speaking, I prefer natural, or ambient, light, but sometimes the look I or my clients want demands the use of controlled electronic light. Here's what I use.
- Quantum T5d strobe, powered by Quantum Turbo battery pack, fired wirelessly
- Canon 550EX strobe
- Canon 430EX II strobe
- PhotoFlex 48" white/gold reflector
Software Since my workflow is digital, I need a "darkroom" to match. I use only industry-standard professional tools to catalog, archive, process, retouch, and output every image I shoot.
- Adobe Photoshop CS4
- Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2
